The One-Month Letdown

Well hello again! It’s only been a couple weeks since my last post- beating the prior difference of over three years. That’s what I call progress!
I am really starting to feel the drag setting back in as the New Year’s motivation starts to fade. I am hanging onto ‘doing it tired’, which is really the only thing keeping me motivated right now. That, and the fact that it is coming up on a year since my last performance job. Man, this stuff is hard. I’d change job fields if I didn’t love performing so damn much.

Since we last spoke, I was able to see my uncle and my dear cousin. The reunion was better than I could have hoped for; with it came the news that my cousin had accepted an offer and verbally committed to play D1 soccer at Fordham University in the Bronx!! I was fortunate enough to go to college a mere 20 minutes away from my cousins and family. I guess now I have a deadline to officially move to NYC, because I feel it is my duty to return that favor :)
To celebrate the occasion, we went out for dinner and a show. To my surprise, they had never seen Hadestown. I had seen it a number of years ago when it toured through The Fox in STL, but evidently they’d never come along! Though it is a classic tale, neither had any knowledge of the plot (or the ending), and it was oh-so-sweet for me to witness their shock firsthand. I was also *very* excited to get to hear Jack Wolfe serenade the theatre, as I’ve been seeing many clips all over my social media raving. Let’s just say he lived up to the hype.

Since I returned home from that trip I haven’t yet had any more auditions. It’s been a pretty relaxed couple weeks, although I have been keeping pretty busy with teaching, workout classes, and random babysitting jobs (I have to pay for those flights somehow!). I have another two trips coming up this next week, so I’m excited to get back into it after this brief respite.
Oh, and I’ve picked up knitting again!! I have a million different skeins of yarn sitting in our guest-room-turned-storage-closet, and for whatever reason I haven’t been touching it. It feels good to have a relaxing hobby that also is working towards something tangible, even though it catches quite a few eyes (and not always in the good way). I do love my grandma hobbies, though :)
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading through my ramblings. Each person who reads my posts, whether or not you interact, feeds my motivation for doing this in the first place. This job is so incredibly difficult and isolating, and it feels good to confide in this screen. It feels even better when I can see it reaching another person on the other side.
I promise to update you again soon. Until then, keep grinding. Lord knows I will be. :)
